it really doesnt matter whether you look down or not. once you know you can do it,, you can doit with your eyes closed. but it can mess up someone who is jsut starting to learn. youll feel if you go nigh enough. but if you canjumpabout a foot, you'll be good.just depends how fearless you are.

can you do a backflip, frontflip or aerial off of the second floor of a building or from a short house. Maybe even the roof of a car? A trash can? A brick? A BALCONY OF A SECOND FLOOR HOTEL? sorry, getting a little ahead of myself... Urban Ninja by EMC Monkeys got me crazy to do stuff like this.

Fri Nov 16, 2007 8:01 pm
no. it isnt hard for shorter peopel to do this. is anything, its easier. less you need to rotate around and throw aroudn in the air. you sohuld be fine. if you can jump atleast 8 inches off the ground your good. seriously. i learend in a day.

Hey! to anyone who wishes to learn how to backflip, this video does show you, do not be discouraged. Thanatos knows what he is doing. and this is no disrespect to him what-so-ever. but Xylem and myself will be submitting a "How To Backflip with Spotters" video to help all of you who are doughtful. It is not hard at all. YOu simply need friends. All will be explained in the video. It ups the safety alot and you dont even need a mat. we will explain everything, but again, this is not to one-up Thanatos, only help you with his method. You can seriously learn it in a day. Me and Xylem did.Just wait all you Viewdoers!
p.s. please do not message us asking ahead of time, you must wait for the video. Thank you

hey if i may add something, i've watched a couple other of these tutorials on youtube and stuff, and heres some of the tips i learned:
do not arch your back
practice raising your arms and then tucking while on your back for speed
use a SPOTTER
spotters are for people too scared and also for safety. the spotter should be able to easily hold/catch you and should not be scared to get hit in the face. watch some videos on youtube or on here to learn more

Hey guys, I'm 14 and I can't jump terribly high, about 18 inch give or take, and I'm wondering whether that's high enough to be able to execute a backflip, without killing myself. I've tried over and over again, even off a poof (a foot-rest) but I can't seem to get enough spin (can I call it that?) to get further than half way through. Help please?

You don't have to be not flexible.
Flexibility always helps with acrobatics but the key to the backflip is the tight tuck and having strong legs to jump high enough to rotate completely.

I saw this the other day, and I thought I had to try it.
I've been obsessed with it ever since.
: ( I tried... well, didn't really try, but make an attempt at it with the tree yesterday (The wallflip though) and my friend stopped me.
A spotter is needed, make sure someone is around to help you.

Mon Oct 02, 2006 8:14 am
I would try to do it on trampoline or a diving board so you can get used to the motion. Also, have someone spot you to make sure your legs get enough rotation. I agree, fear of hurting myself keeps me from doing some things, but that fear also keeps me from hurting myself! Be smart and get a spotter.

My fear is preventing me from this. The elements of the world are on my side. I know I can get enough jump height and I'm quick enough to pull up my arms and legs. Any tips out there? Thank you.

I've been trying to do a backflip on a matress but i always end up landing on me hands and knees, also my abs hurt after."
im kinda in the same situation as Dchi, except instead of landing on my hands and knees, i instinctively put down my hands, transforming the movement into a backhandspring, which i dont really want to do. Anyone have any tips to correct this and turn it into a backflip?

:D Policies are indeed a funny thing. Keep in mind that we don't intend for them to pester or make people "itch" but there are obviously liabilities associated with ViewDoing that require us to cover ourselves legally. Unfortunately we cannot advise you on what works for you. You'll need to use your own judgement here. There is no guideline to related height and weight since it's completly dependant on the individual. Most acrobatics are a function of strength to weight ratio. I certainly don't reccomend attempting this if you aren't able to do it on a trampoline or off of a diving board first and after that I would try a back handspring before trying a full on backflip. Sorry to cop out, but use your best judgement, know your body's limitations, and be safe out there!
nahztu
Sun Sep 10, 2006 8:29 pm
Ok, I don't read policies. Thanks for the information... is there some sort of required weight to acrobatics/gymnastics. I love Acrobatics, and I will do "whatever" it takes to make it as a Ninja.
PS "Policies" make me itch....

Sun Sep 10, 2006 8:23 pm
Nick,
I'm of average height and weight, and I would not try a backflip without an experienced spotter and proper training. From what I've seen, acrobatics require a high ratio of strength to weight, so I wouldn't recommend it. Hi, my name is Nick. I am 19 years old, 6" 0' and I weigh 347 pounds... I think "that" may be too fat, but I'm not sure. I have always wanted to do Acrobatics, Ninjastics... and lots of front, and backflips. I can do handstands at my weight, but wanted to comfirm about health before attempting anything else. I used to do frontflips on the playground to impress the girls... I also used to be able to run acrossed walls. If someone could answer this it would be "most" appreciated.

Phil, you are a quick learner. I think its great advice to start with a spotter. As a spotter, I've found it works to keep you hand under their knee to make sure they get full rotation on the flip.
