well i gotta say u r da man SeePlanet because i learned how to throw a curve but i experimented and figured out how to throw the knucklecurve and i find it easier and better to throw a knucklecurve then a regular curve and hopefully next month we c if it pays off in try outs 8)

Never been a big fan of the pointer grip. The best way I've found to throw a curveball is almost with a "one fingered" grip. Use your MIDDLE finger to grip the inside of the seam. Instead of "whipping" your hand (which will cause elbow problems), think about throwing the side of your hand forward, almost like a karate chop. You have to keep fastball arm speed and as your arm comes forward, turn your hand and throw the side. You need to feel as if your middle finger goes on top and then in front of the ball. Those who are having trouble getting good break need to try this technique. Works more often than not...
p.s. make sure that you dont let your pointer finger glide so as the batter will pick it up. Remember, the pointer is laid on the ball for stability and comfort, but the pressure is on the middle finger. Practice with just the middle

The key for the curve is in the wrist action. You want to keep your hand behind the ball as long as possible. You also want to feel like you are pulling down on the ball and forcing it into the ground.
The slider on the other hand is a little bit faster. If you fastball was 80 mph and your curveball was 70 mph, you would want your slider to be around 87 mph. The harder you throw the slider the shorter and quicker the break will be. Your hand movement instead of coming down is sweeping across so it will slide across the plate rather then loop down. This is more of a power pitch and in my oppinion shouldn't be used till one is a little older because it can screw up your arm at a young age.
If you are pre-college and a pitcher I would suggest having a fastball, curveball, and change-up...maybe even a split finger if you want. No way on the knuckle ball. I remember hitting a homer off of a knuckleball pitcher in highschool and I don't think the ball has landed yet. :)

Hmmm.... I'm not familliar with the "Slurve" it sounds like you're probably referring to some sort of combination slider/curve. What type of motion are you getting on the ball?

Thanks guys...I figured it would take some Cal Poly smarts to demo this pitches correctly. I think this will give my son a better idea of how to throw a curve "properly". :D

Didn't we film a slider? I remember dropping down the arm and getting some wicked slider action.
Alaska is treating me nicely. It's hard to go to bed early with only 2-3 hours of darkness per day. I went for a bike ride at 10pm and ran into a massive moose. Those animals are goofy.

We could definately use a slider. Unfortunately our star pitcher is in Alaska for the summer so we'll either need to wait or find a suitable replacement.
